Auckland drops parking charges and launches new bus safety app

Auckland has announced plans to adapt their transport system to help keep things moving during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The New Zealand city has dropped parking charges across the city to allow those who still need to travel into the city to do so with ease. Auckland Transport parking buildings remained open, but charges for both on and off-street parking have been scrapped during the lockdown period, and time limits removed.

Additionally, a new app has been launched by Auckland Transport to allow public transport passengers to travel safely throughout the city. To ensure that people can maintain social distance, the app alerts people awaiting public transport as to how full the bus or train is. This innovation will help to keep people safe and reduce the spread of COVID-19 whilst keeping public transport running at this difficult time.

This follows the announcement of free but restricted public transport in Auckland.
