Polis Environment & Health Working Group meeting on Active Travel

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels hosted the Polis Environment & Health Working Group meeting on Active Travel on 30 October 2012.

The workshop gathered representatives from public authorities and experts in health, city planning, environment and transport from Europe and the United States.

This meeting looked at the role that plans and policies play in promoting active travel and how to intergrate health in transportation planning, including presentations from Paris and Brussels on reducing the impact of transport on air quality and environmental noise; presentations from London, Modena, WHO and the French Ministry for Sustainable Development on promoting active travel towards healthier communities; presentation from CERTU, Volpe National Transportation System Center and Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organisation on integrating public health and transport / urban planning approaches.

A final roundtable discussion on policy aspects with representatives from the EESC and participants concluded the event.
