Tram passengers in Florence can now benefit from free wi-fi on board
The project called 'Wi Move" was inaugurated on 6 November and is promoted by Province of Florence and the municipality. Total cost of the operation EUR 850.000.
The wi-fi service is available on the tramway line 1 Firenze-Scandicci thanks to 28 hot spots which provide complete coverage on 15 trams running during rush hours, at 14 stops and along the 8 km line.
"The investment in Wi-Fi and technological innovation is yet another demonstration that Florence looks to the future - said Mr Matteo Renzi, Mayor of Florence -. Today [6 Nov] we inaugurate a free Wi-Fi, which is nearly 8 km long and 100 meters wide. this is one of the largest in Europe. While travelling on the tram - he continued - people can navigate freely on the Internet and stay connected: a sign we want to give to the citizens and to the many tourists in Florence, to say that the city of the future is connected and innovative, and very much different from what have known so far."
