Road Safety and Mobility Conference (SaMERU project)
SaMERU is a 30 month €1.3 million European road safety research project co-funded by the European Commission and led by Southend on Sea Borough Council. SaMERU will be producing important EU wide recommendations to reduce the risk of injury to elderly road users and improve mobility. The conference will debate how we should address the challenges of over-dependency on the car and the possible risks that this involves when we get older. It will discuss controversial areas like reducing dependency on the car, leading to possible cessation of driving in some circumstances. Except for discussing the interim findings of the project, there will be opportunities for discussion and networking with others interested in this important subject.
Speakers will include representatives from the project partners and some of Europe’s most distinguished experts in road safety, older driver psychology, traffic engineering and accident statistics.
It will be of interest to local authorities, community leaders and groups representing older people, road safety professionals, emergency services and medical professionals.
