Dear members,

The upcoming 2019 European Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) is fast approaching. I am glad to see so many of our members represented in the conference programme on 17 and 18 June in Groningen! Please, have a look at this news item to discover where to meet Polis and its members during the conference.

I would like to remind that you can still register for our 30th anniversary cocktail which is only one week away! Come and join us for some food & drinks, live music and moments to cherish on 20 June, from 18:00 to 22:00 at NH Collection in the city centre of Brussels. The current Polis President & Chair of Transport for Greater Manchester Councillor Mark Aldred will open the event followed by an intervention by the Brussels Minister of Mobility and Public Works Pascal Smet.

In the wake of World Environment Day on June 5, 2019, the Brussels government has launched an appeal to reduce the flow of traffic and the levels of congestion by decreasing the number of cars entering and circulating the Region by 15%, thus promoting shared mobility solutions.

On 28 May, Gothenburg hosted 45 experts from Europe and Australia to discuss which societal impacts connected and automated vehicles will have. The workshop is organised within the Horizon 2020 funded research project LEVITATE, of which Polis is a partner. Watch the workshop video here.

New PIN report reveals data about urban road safety in the EU

The European Road Safety Council (ETSC) issued a new PIN report today, titled "Safer Roads, Safer Cities". According to the data revealed today, road deaths on urban roads decreased at around half the rate of those on rural roads over the period 2010-2017. Some Polis members contributed their case studies.
