Dear members,

I hope you had a relaxing summer break and are all set to engage in the upcoming Polis meetings and activities!

We’re picking up the thread after summer with the good news that four new members are joining our network! Let me give a warm welcome to the city of Sofia (Bulgaria), the Region of Twente (The Netherlands), Vervoerregio Amsterdam and the town of Portoferraio on the Elba island (Italy)! We are looking forward to a fruitful cooperation and exchange on advancing sustainable mobility in cities and regions through innovation. We hope to meet our new members and you at our annual general assembly and conference, which will take place from 21-23 November in Manchester. Don’t forget to secure your seats and register online as soon as possible. Check out our exciting conference programme here. Updates will follow soon!

2018 Annual Polis Conference offers 25 sessions, side visits and associated workshops

The 2018 Polis Annual Conference is only some 2,5 months away. The event takes place on 22-23 November 2018 at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester, UK. It is hosted by the current Polis Presidency, Transport for Greater Manchester.

21 projects selected by BENEFIC as part of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) grant

Over the next two years, more than 1,000 charging and refuelling points will be added for passenger cars, electric taxis, electric buses, freight transport and onshore electricity supply facilities for inland navigation in Flanders, Brussels Capital Region and the Netherlands.

How to better integrate urban nodes in the TEN-T network; Joint event of Vital Nodes, Gelderland and Arnhem-Nijmegen

On 20 September 2018, Vital Nodes and Arnhem-Nijmegen organize a workshop to discuss TEN-T deployment and the role of local and regional authorities. The workshop takes place in the framework of the Annual week of regions of cities.

Vital Nodes project discussed importance of Urban Nodes for European TEN-T network

On 11 June 2018, Vital Nodes concluded the first series of Urban Nodes Workshops in Mannheim. The workshops highlighted how urban nodes are integral for a functioning trans European network, as multimodal hubs for the hinterland, but also to divert transport flows. The full results will be published in a dedicated report in Autumn.

ASSURED workshop: Strategies & needs on EV fast-charging infrastructure for urban freight

The event, part of the ASSURED project, will take place on 24 September 2018 in Oslo, Norway. It aims to discuss strategies for upscaling electric full-size commercial fleets and fast charging infrastructure, with a focus on urban freight and service trips.

Overview of DRTs in Europe

App-based DRT becomes increasingly popular in Europe. It is understood as a measure to increase accessibility in underserviced areas or off-peak times and can complement the existing public transport network for specific purposes. As part of a more extensive research exercise, POLIS works on creating an overview of app-based DRT services in Europe.

Project EDWARD stands for "European Day Without A Road Death". Initiated by the European Traffic Police Network TISPOL, the day aims to encourage all road users to safer behaviour. A central conference takes place in Madrid on 19 September.

7th SUMP Award: Submit your application until 1 October!

Cities and regions are invited to submit an application for the European SUMP Award until Monday 1st October. The award is presented for excellence in sustainable urban mobility planning, this year specifically for its capacity to address multimodality.
