Dear members,

Next Tuesday 26 June at 11 AM CEST Polis – within the context of CIVITAS - is organising a live webinar on Mobility as a Service (MaaS) . Polis will reflect on the role of local and regional authorities in the MaaS environment, while you will also learn more about its smart integration into transport policies from a researcher’s perspective. Please, register here if you wish to attend the webinar.

More CIVITAS related news: The call for applications for this year's CIVITAS Awards has just been launched. Towns and cities have time until 13 July 2018 to submit their entries and take a chance on winning Europe's most prestigious prizes for clean urban transport! All details are available here.

We are glad to inform you that the updated agenda for the upcoming Polis Working Group dedicated to Governance is now available online. The event will take place on 3 - 4 July in Paris with a joint Political Group meeting and it will be the occasion to officially kick-off our new horizontal Pillar dedicated to Governance. You are still on time to join us for this first meeting and engage in an interactive discussion on regulating innovation and disruption and on taking politically sensitive measures, with the high level experts of the OECD’s International Transport Forum and with other members of the network! All information is available on this page.

Polis Secretary General Karen Vancluysen gave a keynote speech at the Cities for Mobility Congress in Stuttgart (18 June) and at the DenCity final conference in Gothenburg (19 June).

Register for the EPA-Polis-CPA parking workshop and Polis Parking Working Group: 13-14 September, Prague

EPA and Polis are hosted by the Czech Parking Association and the marvellous city of Prague for their annual joint workshop. This workshop will take place on 13 September and is followed the day after by a Polis Parking Working Group meeting.

European projects

How can we boost SUMP take-up across Europe?

On 13 June, SUMPs-Up held a networking breakfast and knowledge exchange with Brussels-based stakeholders to comment on the project’s draft recommendations to local, national and European authorities to improve SUMP take-up. Representatives from the European Commission’s DG REGIO and DG MOVE attended the event and fruitfully contributed to the discussion.

7th SUMP Award: Submit your application until 1 October!

Cities and regions are invited to submit an application for the European SUMP Award until Monday 1st October. The award is presented for excellence in sustainable urban mobility planning, this year specifically for its capacity to address multimodality.

Publication of REFORM Good Practices

As part of the Interreg REFORM project, a consortium of seven organisations, located in five different European countries, supports the implementation and deployment of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) as an instrument for shifting mobility towards low-carbon patterns. This project gives particular attention to regions which play a central role to encourage the adoption of SUMPs by local authorities, including small towns and medium-sized cities.

Workshop on automated vehicles and traffic management

The MAVEN project will run a workshop in Greenwich (London) on 24 October about how increasing vehicle automation may affect urban traffic management. It follows two similar workshops held in Brussels in October 2017 and Barcelona in November 2016.

ETSC released new Road Safety Performance Index (PIN) report

The new PIN report by the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) shows that road safety progress in the European Union has stagnated for the last four years. The weekly number of road deaths in the EU is equivalent to two typical passenger airliners crashing and killing everyone on board.
