Dear members,

As the main organiser of the event, Polis is very excited to attend the 5th European Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans that will take place next week on 14-15 May in Nicosia, Cyprus. During the conference, the call for applications for the 7th European SUMP Award will open (application deadline will be 1 October). This year’s award theme is multimodality, which corresponds to the European Commission's decision to make 2018 "the year of multimodality". To know more about the SUMP Conference please click here.

Last but not least, the call for speakers for this year’s annual Polis conference will close next Friday 18 May.

Don’t miss this opportunity to showcase your transport innovations by submitting your abstract here! Polis organises ITF summit side event on road safety in cities and regions

On 23 May, from 9.-10.30h a seminar on innovative road safety approaches on local and regional level will be held in Leipzig, Germany at the annual summit of the International Transport Forum. Polis organised the event in cooperation with ETSC, iRAP, NACTO, NY City DOT, the Open Transport Partnership, TfL and Volvo Group.

London and Rome have been elected to chairs the ITF Safer City Streets network in 2018. Safer City Streets is building a road safety database and cooperates with the Polis Road Safety Working Group to share their experience with peers from other cities world-wide.

Register Now for the 9th International Cities for Mobility Congress in Stuttgart

The Ninth International Cities for Mobility Congress will take place under the title "New mobility and the transformation of our cities"on 17-19 June 2018 at Stuttgart City Hall. On the first day of the event, Polis Secretary General Karen Vancluysen will give a keynote speech on "Mobility innovation in cities: Avoiding pitfalls, embracing opportunities".

European projects

Cooperative ITS workshops for cities

Three European projects, C-the Difference, C-Mobile and C-Roads are joining forces on 5 & 6 June in Bordeaux to run a series of workshops about urban C-ITS (cooperative ITS), involving testimonies from many cities about their pilot experiences, results from the pilot projects and input from the European insitutions about the EU C-ITS policy framework.

Vital Nodes Masterclass at the TEN-T Days.

On 25 April 2018, Vital Nodes held a public Masterclass at the TEN-T Days in Ljubljana. Moderated by Isabelle Vandoorne (European Commission, DG MOVE), the session introduced the project to the audience and facilitated discussions of the integration of urban nodes in the TEN-T network.

Polis moderates mobility session at EU Green Cities Summit

21-25 May 2018 marks the EU Green Week, titled: “Greener Cities for a greener Future”. The week opens on 21/5 in Utrecht and closes on 25/5 in Madrid. A high level EU Green Cities Summit will take place in Brussels, 22-24/5. The week explores ways in which the EU is helping cities to become better places to live and work.

Tantalum: opportunities for fully-paid pilot in cities

The company Tantalum which is developing a tool which can measure the emissions of vehicles, on real-time. In cooperation with Univesity College London, the company offers the implementation of a fully-paid large-scale pilot to cities planning to implement a Low-Emission Zone.

ITF publishes new report on "Integrating Urban Public Transport Systems and Cycling"

Sustainable urban transport systems require alternatives to the use of private cars that are competitive in terms of convenience and flexibility as well as cost. Mass transit systems are the central component but extension of heavy rail and metro systems is costly and these can never reach every part of the city. This report examines other options for improving public transport and extending network coverage.

Ministry for Transport in Italy announces 200 millions co-funding for local authorities and metropolitan areas

Two new co-funding mechanisms will grant over 200 millions euro to metropolitan areas, local authorities, and port authorities in Italy to develop public infrastructure, including SUMP development over the 2018-2020 period.
