Editorial

Dear members,

Two weeks ago, at this year's Annual General Assembly, the city of Rotterdam was unanimously elected to be the president of the Polis network in 2016!

Congratulations to Rotterdam, as well as to Bilbao, Tisséo Toulouse and Ile-de-France who have been (re-) elected as members of the Polis Management Committee and to Pisa who will act as Polis vice-president. I also wish to thank the city of Madrid for the excellent cooperation during their Polis presidency over the past two years and BKK Budapest for their equally excellent vice-presidency. While it is sad to see that phase come to an end, we also look forward to working with the new president and vice-president in the year to come!

Speaking of 2016, this InfoPolis provides details of upcoming events and Working Group meetings: in February, a bike sharing working group will take place in Brussels. March sees both the TE&M and road safety working groups meet in London, brought together by an additional workshop on ITS to improve the road safety for vulnerable road users.

To help you mark your calendars we continuously update our overview of key events in 2016: Just bookmark http://www.polisnetwork.eu/2016keyevents!

For now, I wish you a pleasant read!

Yours sincerely,
Karen Vancluysen
Secretary General

Member in the Spotlight: Europe’s Green Capital Bristol unveils city toolkit

In 2015, the city of Bristol has been Europe’s Green Capital. This was also an outcome of 40 years of environmental efforts with great progress in many areas. Now, Bristol is willing to help other cities around the world to “go green” by sharing its experience and knowledge about sustainability at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris (COP21).

The city is doing this through a free online toolkit called 'The Bristol Method' which documents everything Bristol has learnt from its year as European Green Capital so other cities can benefit. Bristol's Mayor George Ferguson, who previously had a career as an architect, revealed one of his principles in an interview with Polis for 'Thinking Cities': “It is important to work together as city regions to tackle poor transport!".
