The COP21 Paris Agreement of December 2015 created a political pathway for global CO2 mitigation efforts by setting up a five-year review cycle for national decarbonisation commitments starting in 2020. To help close gaps between commitments and delivery on climate change mitigation, the ITF is proposing a comprehensive project to help decision-makers meet their objectives to decarbonise transport.
The Decarbonising Transport project aims to:
This project will be undertaken through dialogue and coordination with all engaged partners. Emphasis will be on collaboration and mutual learning among all parties centered around a data-driven, crossindustry roadmap. This will be based on the best available modelling with input from a wide variety of stakeholders. It will provide decision-makers in government and business with the navigation tool they need to chart the pathways to decarbonising transport between now and c. 2050.
The Decarbonising Transport project will examine alternative policy options to enable better calibrated strategies by the next phase of commitments in 2020.
