Editorial

Dear members,

I am very pleased to announce that we have published the draft programme of this year's Annual Polis Conference (19-20 November, Brussels)! More than a hundred abstracts were submitted, which helped build an interesting and diverse conference programme with 16 technical sessions. We are especially happy to see a good number of submissions from Polis members!

Alongside the programme, registration for the conference has also opened. Note that each Polis member city and region is entitled to the free registration of up to 3 representatives. Please register as soon as you can to secure your seat(s)!

Also don't let summer pass before looking into the two Polis Working Group meetings scheduled for September, one on smart parking in Berlin and one on health and transport in Dresden. Both meetings take place in the same week, read more about the meetings below.

As usual, finally a reminder to please login to the Polis website as a member to access all information addressed to Polis members only (green headline)! If you do not know your login details, please contact us.

The final issue of InfoPolis before the summer break will be released in two weeks. For now, I wish you a pleasant read!

Yours sincerely,
Karen Vancluysen
Secretary General

First SUMP in Thessaloniki as a result of tremendous efforts

Despite major economic and social challenges, Thessaloniki has succeeded in drafting its first Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), which was adopted in February 2014. Thessaloniki's outstanding efforts have been rewarded by the 'Special Prize of the Jury' within the recent European SUMP Award.

Thessaloniki is engaged in mobility planning since the early 70s, however, until recent times efforts made in transport focused on road works. Through its new SUMP, Thessaloniki intends to reach four main objectives: a growth of public transport; a decrease of car flows in central area; a growth in active transport; and a decrease in pollution emissions.
