Dear members,

with this 60th issue in the history of InfoPolis we are pleased to update you on ongoing activities and upcoming events.

Most importantly, the preparations for the 2012 Polis Conference are progressing. The draft programme will be published next week. For Polis members, registration will already open as well. So save 29-30 November 2012 in Perugia and visit the conference page for updates.

The draft conference programme is nearing completion and is scheduled to be released on 29 August. The quality of the abstracts means that Polis can offer an exciting programme of plenary and parallel sessions covering a wide variety of topical themes and issues.

How can we be better? Register now for the Second EPA-Polis Parking Workshop - 20 September - Helsinki

At the second Joint EPA-Polis Parking Workshop, parking experts will try to answer the question how quality in parking management can be improved in order to better manage and balance urban transport demand. With over 50 people registered so far, the event will without a doubt provide an ideal forum to exchange thoughts between urban transport professionals.

Members in action

Trams move to the road in Dresden: "Autotram Extra Grand" presented today

The world’s longest bus is being presented today in Dresden. The “Autotram Extra Grand” is a hybrid vehicle of 30 metres length, which can carry up to 256 passengers. Bridging the gap between busses and trams, a pilot in Dresden's public transport network is foreseen in the autumn.

European projects

CityHush workshop "Acoustically green cities" takes place in Perugia

The workshop "Acoustically green cities" aims to support local authorities to reduce transport noise in cities. The training is organised by the EU project CityHush and will be hold at the 2012 Polis conference in Perugia, Italy.

Intelligent eyes keep London moving on Olympic route network

Six additional smart cameras have been set up on the London Olympic route network to keep the city moving. The application has been made possible through the EU co-funded research project STADIUM. The lessons learnt will culminate in an interactive ITS Online Guide.

Around Europe and beyond

Polis members participate at 2012 European Mobility Week

From 16 to 22 September, during the European Mobility Week, Europe will see a large numer of local actions promoting sustainable transport. 11 Polis members have already planned local activities and registered them on the Mobility Week Website. Linked to the Week is the European Commission’s new Sustainable Urban Mobility campaign "Do the right Mix", which includes funding opportunities and an SUMP Award.
