Dear members,

2,5 weeks are left to submit your abstracts for the 2016 Polis Conference! The conference on 1-2 December in Rotterdam provides a major platform for all of you to share your transport achievements, meet your peers from across Europe and further strengthen your network.

We therefore encourage all of you to submit an abstract before 22 May and not to miss this opportunity to showcase your urban transport innovations!

Polis hosted SWITCH and thematic guidelines sessions at the EMW workshop

Florinda Boschetti shared tools for campaigners deriving from the SWITCH project, while Thomas Mourey and Dagmar Köhler presented the 2016 Thematic Guidelines (authored by Polis) at the annual EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK workshop in Brussels on 20 April.

An inspirational workshop on the best of Dutch cycling culture

On Monday April 25 we invited all our Dutch members to come over to Brussels and show their innovations in the field of cycling at a workshop on "The best of Dutch cycling culture" with the aim to share best practices and present cutting edge bicycle projects for other cities and regions in Europe to learn from. The event was organised in the frame of the Cycling Festival Europe 2016, which was launched during the Dutch presidency of the Council of the EU, and with the support of the Dutch Cycling Embassy.

We invite local and regional authorities but also researchers, industry representatives, consultants and those working for networks, Institutions or other authorities to submit an abstract for the 2016 Annual Polis Conference "Innovation in transport for sustainable cities and regions". The conference takes place on 1-2 December 2016 in Rotterdam, NL.

Polis Side Event "Creating the liveable, inclusive and healthy city" at the International Transport Forum on 18 May 2016 in Leipzig, Germany

The Polis Working Group on Environment & Health in Transport in cooperation with the Transport, Health and Environment Pan-European Programme (THE PEP) and the PASTA project, will host a Side Event during the 2016 International Transport Forum Summit on May 18th. The event will outline the link between health and transport, including the Health economic assessment tool (HEAT) for walking and cycling, and air quality. You're invited!

Next meeting of Polis TE&M WG coupled with C-ITS and cities workshop

Glasgow City Council will host the next meeting of the Polis TE&M WG on 7 June 2016. A meeting of the CODECS City Pool on C-ITS and cities will take place on 6 June at the same venue. Glasgow is the home of the ITS Europe Congress 2016 from 6-9 June.

Embracing Active Travel for Health, SWITCH Final Conference

The European Commission co-funded SWITCH project held its final event in Bremen, Germany, on April 14. Entitled "Embracing Active Travel for Health", it showcased how cities, mobility campaigners and health practitioners can design and implement a campaign to trigger travel behaviour change at life changing moments using health messages to motivate change. The event offered a unique opportunity to learn from five SWITCH cities' best practices.

CIVITAS Workshop on Clean Vehicles and Fuels: Challenges and Solutions in electric charging infrastructure deployment

This CIVITAS workshop will be held in Rotterdam next 16 and 17 of June. Leading European cities will exchange on their experiences of planning infrastructure roll-out & associated services and on how a business case for charging infrastructure could be achieved.

Nine FLOW Exchange Cities selected

Following a competitive call, Nicosia (CY), Tallinn (EE), Thessaloniki (GR), Pisa (IT), Ploiesti (RO), Örebro (SE), Zurich (CH), Izmir (TR), Manchester (UK) have been selected to join the FLOW project as Exchange Cities. They will be “twinned” with FLOW Partner Cities based on their interests in walking and cycling measures.

After nearly four years of demonstrating fully automated road transport systems in 7 towns and cities across Europe, the CityMobil2 partners would like to share the projects results and their thoughts for the future deployment of these systems. The final conference will take place in San Sebastián from 1-2 June 2016.
