Rotterdam (NL)

Rotterdam, with about 600,000 inhabitants, is the largest and central main port for goods distribution in Europe and still has one of the largest ports in the world. Rotterdam started the Rotterdam Climate Initiative (RCI) in 2007, as part of the Clinton Climate Initiative and is an affiliated member of the C-40 cities. With the RCI, Rotterdam has set a very ambitious target for CO reduction in several sectors, including mobility. The target Is 50% CO2 reduction in 2025 compared to 1990.

Rotterdam's transport policy aims at facilitating the economically very important main-port distribution activities whilst reducing the environmental impact of traffic. The RCI target has to be achieved in 3 ways: clean use, clean vehicles and clean fuels. Electric (and plug-in electric) vehicles are being supported as the most promising vehicle solution for the sustainable mobility future, but always in combination with a view on clean use.

Rotterdam is/was involved in the EU projects Citeair I and Citeair IICATCHECOSTARS and INVOLVE.

Rotterdam was engaged in the TIDE project on urban transport innovation. This short movie shows their achievements in the project.
