Polis has a permanent secretariat in Brussels. Those working in the secretariat are in charge of Polis' daily activities: support and services to members; European project contributions (and dialogue with the European institutions); financial and administrative management of the network, and Polis communication. The secretariat coordinates and supports the thematic pillars.

Sylvain joined Polis in 2003 after several years of experience in transport and European affairs. He was appointed Executive Director in 2006, and has the overall responsibility of managing the Polis secretariat and implementing the Polis strategy. Before becoming Executive Director, Sylvain coordinated the PILOT project on sustainable urban transport plans. Sylvain is co-leader of the urban mobility working group of the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC). He is involved in several projects among which ELTIS+, STADIUM, Co-Cities, CATALIST and P3ITS. Sylvain speaks English, French and Italian.
Karen is Research Director at Polis and oversees the network's research and project activities. Prior to joining POLIS in 2004, she was Network Manager at ACCESS-EUROCITIES for a New Mobility Culture and project manager at Langzaam Verkeer. She has been involved in many EU transport and urban mobility projects since 1998 as partner, work package leader and project coordinator. Currently, Karen is involved in the projects VANGUARD (CIVITAS), NICHES+ (transport innovation), CITYHUSH (noise), FOT-Net (Field Operational Tests), SUGAR (freight), and SMARTFREIGHT. Gabriela joined Polis in 2006. She has a broad experience in finance and administration of European projects and coordinates these activities within Polis. Gabriela also works on urban freight topics and currently participates in the SMARTFREIGHT, SUGAR and FREILOT projects. She holds a Masters degree in Human Ecology and has previously worked in environment and land use projects in Mexico and Belgium. You can contact her in English, Spanish, French and Dutch.
Florinda joined Polis in February 2012. She will be involved in the pillar Environment and Health and is working on the European project MOLECULES (ICT for electric vehicles), CIVITAS VANGUARD and a three-years Sustainable Urban Mobility campaign. In the past Florinda worked in the PRESTO project at European Cyclists’ Federation, and has extensive knowledge on cycling policies and planning liveable communities. She holds a Masters degree in Urban, Regional and Environmental Planning and a Doctoral degree in Engineering focusing on slow mobility and town planning. Ivo leads Polis' thematic pillar on the Social and Economic Aspects of Transport. He is currently working on the European Projects NICHES+ (mainstreaming urban transport innovation), CIVITAS VANGUARD and CIVITAS CATALIST. He has worked in the past on PILOT (Sustainable Urban Transport Plans), NICHES, ASK-IT (Ambient Intelligence for People with Disabilities), CURACAO (Urban Road User Charge), ECLIPSE (Social inclusion through transport measures) and CVIS (Cooperative Vehicle – Infrastructure Systems) projects. Suzanne coordinates Polis membership services and leads the thematic pillar on mobility and traffic efficiency. Suzanne is particularly involved in the CONDUITS (KPIs for ITS), CityMobil (automated transport systems), CityNetMobil (automated transport systems) and FOT-Net II (field operational test) projects. Previously, she worked on the Mediate project (accessibility in public transport). She also represents Polis on the eSafety RTD Working Group. Julie joined Polis in 2006. She is the Office Manager and is also strongly involved in the organisation of Polis and European events, among which the Polis Conference. Julie is also the contact person if you are interested to rent Polis' meeting rooms. You can contact her in English and French.
Dagmar is in charge of Polis' corporate communication, and responsible for the Polis newsletters. She also works on dissemination activities in several European projects: ENERQI (quality monitoring for public transport), ELTIS+ (web portal), ECOSTARS (energy efficient transport fleets), CityHush (reducing transport noise) and STADIUM (transport services for large events).
