Polis has a permanent secretariat in Brussels. Those working in the secretariat are in charge of Polis' daily activities: support and services to members; European project contributions (and dialogue with the European institutions); financial and administrative management of the network, and Polis communication. The secretariat coordinates and supports the thematic pillars.

Karen was appointed as Executive Director of Polis in September 2014, after having been the network's Research Director for 8 years. Prior to joining POLIS as senior research coordinator in 2004, she was Network Manager at ACCESS-EUROCITIES for a New Mobility Culture and project manager at Langzaam Verkeer, a Belgian centre for mobility management. Since 1998, she has been involved in urban transport networking and policy activities and many EU transport and urban mobility projects as partner, work package leader and project coordinator. Gabriela joined Polis in 2006. She has a broad experience in finance and administration of European projects and coordinates these activities within Polis. Gabriela also works on urban freight topics and currently participates in the SMARTFREIGHT, SUGAR and FREILOT projects. She holds a Masters degree in Human Ecology and has previously worked in environment and land use projects in Mexico and Belgium. You can contact her in English, Spanish, French and Dutch.
Ivo leads Polis' thematic pillar on the Social and Economic Aspects of Transport. He is currently working on the European Projects NICHES+ (mainstreaming urban transport innovation), CIVITAS VANGUARD and CIVITAS CATALIST. He has worked in the past on PILOT (Sustainable Urban Transport Plans), NICHES, ASK-IT (Ambient Intelligence for People with Disabilities), CURACAO (Urban Road User Charge), ECLIPSE (Social inclusion through transport measures) and CVIS (Cooperative Vehicle – Infrastructure Systems) projects. Suzanne coordinates Polis membership services and leads the thematic pillar on mobility and traffic efficiency. Suzanne is particularly involved in the CONDUITS (KPIs for ITS), CityMobil (automated transport systems), CityNetMobil (automated transport systems) and FOT-Net II (field operational test) projects. Previously, she worked on the Mediate project (accessibility in public transport). She also represents Polis on the eSafety RTD Working Group. Florinda leads the pillar Environment and Health and coordinates policy work in health and transport. She is acting as focal point for the WHO-UNECE Transport, Health and Environment Pan-European Partnership (THE PEP) and is currently working on the European projects PASTA (active mobility), PTP-Cycle (cycling), SWITCH (walking and cycling promotion), and the international SOLUTIONS project. Previously, she has worked at MOLECUES (e-vehicles), ICT-Emissions (ICT and air quality) and Smartfusion (clean urban freight logistics). She holds a PhD in Civil Engineering focusing on sustainable mobility and a MSc in Urban Planning. You can contact her in English, Italian, French, Hungarian, or Spanish.
With Polis since 2011, Dagmar is in charge of Polis corporate communication including media partnerships and the joint Polis-H3B publication "Thinking Cities". Dagmar also leads Polis thematic Working Group on transport safety and security. She's involved in European projects such as the ERTRAC support project Foster-Road, the European Commission's sustainable urban mobility campaign "Do the right mix" and the Clean Vehicle Portal. Julie joined Polis in 2006. She is the Office Manager and is also strongly involved in the organisation of Polis and European events, among which the Polis Conference. Julie is also the contact person if you are interested to rent Polis' meeting rooms. You can contact her in English and French.
Nicolas joined Polis in February 2015 as Policy Officer. Nicolas is in charge EU institutions relation and presents Polis positions to stakeholders and partners in Brussels. He worked on TIDE and NODES European projects, and currently on CIVITAS CAPITAL, GROWSMARTER and EAFO. Nicolas has a broad experience in European Policy in his previous positions with elected representatives in Brussels, in regions and cities. You can contact him in English, French and Italian.
Daniela is working on the following EU projects: POSSE (Open specifications for ITS in urban policies), POLITE (ITS for Public Transport), EPTA (Enhancing Public Transport Authorities) and the SUMP-related projects QUEST and CH4LLENGE. She holds a Master’s degree in European Studies with a focus on EU policies and institutional decision-making. Daniela has gained working experience from the Committee of the Regions of the EU in Brussels and from the United Nations Development Programme, Unit for Sustainable Development in Brazil. Thomas has joined Polis in February 2015. He works on several EU projects such as SWITCH and PASTA on active mobility, and CH4LLENGE on sustainable urban mobility planning. Thomas holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and European Studies from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Strasbourg. Prior to joining Polis, Thomas has worked as a European project officer in the association Siel Bleu (Strasbourg) and at the European Cyclists’ Federation. You can contact him in English or French.
Giacomo joined Polis in May 2015 and works on several EU projects, such as NOVELOG (cooperative business models and guidance for sustainable city logistics), TRACE (walking and cycling tracking services), CIMEC (deployment of Cooperative ITS for mobility) and STARS (cycle-friendly certification for primary schools). Giacomo holds a Master’s degree in European Economy and Business Law from the Tor Vergata University in Rome. He has previously worked as policy advisor for Éupolis (the research institute of Lombardy Region in Milan) and as trainee at the European Commission (DG MOVE).
